Another Global Warming Expedition is Trapped in Polar Ice

Image: Daily Mail Update 31 Dec 2013

They went in search evidence of the world’s melting ice caps, but instead a team of climate scientists have been forced to abandon their mission … because the Antarctic ice is thicker than usual at this time of year.

The scientists have been stuck aboard the stricken MV Akademik Schokalskiy since Christmas Day, with repeated sea rescue attempts being abandoned as icebreaking ships failed to reach them.

Now that effort has been ditched, with experts admitting the ice is just too thick. Instead the crew have built an icy helipad, with plans afoot to rescue the 74-strong team by helicopter.

Update 29 Dec 2013: The joint English / Australian expedition sent to expose global warming inroads in the Antarctic, remains icebound and still beyond reach of rescue vessels attempting to break through the unseasonably thick ice.

Global warming isn’t what it used to be. It seems that every time a modern expedition gears up for the polar regions to demonstrate the effects of “global warming,” it gets stuck in the ice! (also see “Desperate Times for Arctic Yachtsmen”)

The current inconvenient climate crisis du jour is led by Australian climate doomer professor Chris Turney, from the University of New South Wales. Turney’s icebound ship is the MV Akademic Shokalskiy.

MV Akademik Shokalskiy (Russian: Академик Шокальский) is an Akademik Shuleykin-class ice-strengthened ship, built in Finland in 1982 and originally used for oceanographic research.[5] In 1998 it was fully refurbished to serve as a research ship for Arctic and Antarctic work.[3] It was named after the Russian oceanographer Yuly Shokalsky.[6] The ship has two [7] passenger decks, with dining rooms, a bar, a library, and a sauna, and accommodates 54 passengers.[3] It is currently operated by Aurora Expeditions, an Australian expedition cruise line. _Wikipedia _ via _ http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/12/26/so-much-ice-in-antarctica-that-a-research-vessel-gets-stuck-in-summer/

Expedition leaders should have checked the data before setting sail. It seems that Antarctic sea ice is running 26% above seasonal norms.

The mainstream [skansktream] news media has studiously glossed over the inconvenient details of this latest climate contretemps. But ordinary people are watching. And talking. More

The worldwide multi-$trillion climate caper and green energy starvation crusade has the solid backing of global politicians, faux environmental groups, mafia connected carbon markets, prestigious universities and government educational bureaus, and the skankstream media. Generations of schoolchildren and university students have had their critical thought processes crippled by mindless indoctrination.

On the side of a more skeptical reality you can still find a wide array of private individuals and loose confederations of grass-roots fact checkers.

This is asymmetrical conflict in its most basic form. Be aware that one side of this conflict is willing to bet the shirt off your back and your very last dollar that it is right. If you would rather keep your shirts and your dollars for your own uses, you may wish to learn more about the fundamental issues underlying climate change.

who didn’t get to the thermostat in time?

Oh my goodness. I cannot believe that those global warmingists seriously want to be rescued from the ice. They should be celebrating the ice! Besides, it would contribute to global warming if somebody sends in a big ol’ nasty icebreaker to save them. They should just wait for next summer. The Antarctic will surely be ice free by then.

Ah, but S.W., it is summer down under. And they do not have enough supplies to wait for peak melting in 2 or 3 months. To put it bluntly, if they were not living in a fantasy, they would not be in that situation to begin with.

The more reality-bound world will rescue them, no doubt. But it will get no thanks from model-bound ideologists who will only get angry at reality for disappointing them.
