But most Brazilians are willing to live their lives as close to normal as possible — unlike the fearful residents of many wealthier nations. People are dying of COVID in Brazil at about the same rate as in the US, but because Brazil is a poorer country than the US, it cannot afford the luxury of shutting everything down just to soothe hysterical politicians, journalists, and academics.
The world media and the political in-set condemn what Brazil’s bad boy president is doing to the country during the pandemic that was supposed to shut everything down. Self-important media and other self-appointed experts just hate that Brazilians are living their lives and disregarding the globalist message of panic. Consequently, Brazil will be more ready to pick up as soon as the rest of the world stops panicking and begins to function again.
COVID deaths in Brazil have been relatively flat for a few months now, without ever experiencing the huge surge that was seen in Italy or New York. The people of Brazil are tired of reacting to predictions of holocaust and are unwilling to wait for a perfect treatment or vaccine before they live their lives — they want to live now! They are well aware that life itself is a risky proposition, where anyone can die anytime.
In wealthy countries, governments institute lockdowns out of a pretense that the Chinese virus is the only threat to be faced. No wonder they have been blindsided by a far worse scourge than the virus itself.
Given the high economic costs and well-documented long-term health consequences beyond COVID-19, imposing lockdowns appears to have been a large policy error. At first, when little was known, officials acted in ways they thought prudent. Chief Investment Officer of the analytics firm “TrendMacro,” Donald Luskin, wrote an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal titled, “The Failed Experiment of COVID Lockdowns” to detail why he believes they did not work.
Luskin started the piece writing, “the results are in. Counterintuitive though it may be, statistical analysis shows that locking down the economy didn’t contain the disease’s spread and reopening it didn’t unleash a second wave of infections.”
Luskin explained that the period of time with the strictest lockdowns didn’t result in a reduction of spread whatsoever. Luskin wrote, “Measuring from the start of the year to each state’s point of maximum lockdown—which range from April 5 to April 18—it turns out that lockdowns correlated with a greater spread of the virus. States with longer, stricter lockdowns also had larger Covid outbreaks. The five places with the harshest lockdowns—the District of Columbia, New York, Michigan, New Jersey and Massachusetts—had the heaviest caseloads.” __

Brazil’s Bolsonaro angered a lot of “experts” by not locking down Brazil and not destroying the country’s economy and people — as the “experts” seem to have wished — but he seemed to have understood the “life goes on” mentality of his fellow Brazilians far better than the “experts.”
I wonder if “Lockdown Joe Biden” is capable of the same type of understanding?
