Sweden Once Again Goes Its Own Way on COVID

Sweden’s death rates from COVID are lower than for most of Europe. Like much of the rest of the world the “case count” in Sweden has trended upward with the cooler weather. But so far, Sweden is resisting the mass hysteria toward “lockdown fever” seen in much of the rest of the continent.

After deciding to take a “herd immunity” approach to COVID-19 at the start of the pandemic, Sweden was roundly condemned for not following the harsh lockdowns imposed by virtually every other major European country.

However, as Newsweek acknowledged, Sweden’s COVID-19 death rate is lower than those of Spain, the UK and Italy, countries which all imposed draconian lockdowns.

With more people already having been exposed to SARS CoV-2 and presumably being at least partially immune to its more serious affects, Sweden seems in a much better position to face the wintertime virus season — at least in terms of COVID.

Interminable lockdowns only extend the pandemic far beyond the time it should have already peaked.

As the head of the US CDC said: “We’re seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from Covid. We’re seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose, that are above excess, than we had as background, than we are seeing deaths from Covid.”

Greater excess deaths from cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and the other high ranking causes of death also come with the irrational lockdown responses which accompany obsessive focus on a single virus.

Lockdowns are killing more people than the virus.

More and more medical professionals are recognizing the severe damage the lockdowns have caused to present and future public health. A worldwide collection of medical and public health experts has just issued a declaration stating that current “lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health” and that to keep “these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.”

It is almost as if public health officials have forgotten everything they ever knew about infectious diseases — and decided to take their cues from the communist Chinese government about how to face this particular virus.

Shutting down the economies of the free world and putting hundreds of millions of healthy people into lockdown quarantines indefinitely will apparently benefit select groups of people. Cui bono?
