It all starts with group thinking conformity. Leftism is an ideology, not a philosophy — a key difference. Maintaining group conformity is a major undertaking in a nonsensical ideology, particularly in the early stages. Here’s one way to do it:
Leftism thrives in censorship, groupthink, and total conformity to the top-down talking points of the day — propagated in lockstep by media large and small, by professors, and by corrupt politicians. Leftism is an ideology with an agenda…
The possession and advancement of an agenda by a sizable group of persons is meant to inhibit and suppress the modus vivendi that would occur naturally. The agenda, in other words, is meant to substitute the preferences of a segment of a society or polity for the host of individual preferences that can and would be reconciled through social (and economic) intercourse.
It should go without saying that this substitution will always necessarily be carried out by the use of force, or the threat of it. And the state, in its various manifestations, will provide the force.
Leftism, in short, is an ideology of bullies. It’s not the only one, but it’s the leading one these days. The right — by which I mean the statist right, not conservatism — is just the left with a somewhat different agenda.
They tend to be closed-minded bullies who believe in free speech only for themselves and for no one else.
All too often, people who call themselves progressive liberals are at the forefront of movements to shut down debates on college campuses and to restrict freedom of speech. They are eager to cut corners, bend the Constitution, make up laws through questionable court rulings, and generally abuse the rules and the Constitution in order to get their way.
They establish “zero tolerance” regimes in schools where young boys are suspended for nibbling breakfast pastries into the shape of a gun. They are supposedly great haters of bigotry but sometimes speak of Christians in the most bigoted manner imaginable, as if Christians were no better than fascists.
American liberals are, in short, becoming increasingly illiberal. They are surrendering to the temptations of the closed mind. The Intolerant Left
There may be a few leftists who still think they are trying to create a better world. But it is all too clear that what the left is really about is eliminating everyone who thinks differently and who is unwilling to be coerced into conforming.
Mel Brooks joined the recent chorus of comedians who say that the PC culture has gone too far in stifling comedy. He says his classic movie “Blazing Saddles” would not be made today, and he blames the “stupidly politically correct.” Other comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Larry the Cable Guy, Dennis Miller, John Cleese and Chris Rock agree. Many say they will not play college gigs anymore because of the rigid PC pushback.
There are no edgy comics on the left. They are all conformists, slaves to the PC world they have helped create. Contrary to the left’s narrative, I have found the right to be far more tolerant of humor. The Ugly Orwellian Left
This dismaying portrait of the ruling politically correct overlord class could have come straight out of the pages of the famous dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell. If you haven’t read that essential work (published 1949), you will be unprepared for what is coming under the new and unauthorized US government*. Another useful guidebook for these irrational and corrupt times is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
