Life Beyond the Lockdown

Rediscovering the World

Here is an account of a recent visit to a brewpub:

Yes, the owner and servers were wearing masks, as mandated by the government. Still, you could almost see the smiles through them. They were practically yelling with delight to be back working, back in business, back serving the public. They were all hopping around like rabbits, even though the place was forcibly doing a fraction of its normal business. It was like two-plus months of pent-up energy pouring out all at once.

It was immediately obvious to me that these people have a vocation. They have dreams. They are meant to do this. It is a deep passion that burns within. They were wickedly and cruelly stopped from doing what they set out to do and robbed of two months of profits and two months of happiness in serving others. More importantly, their dreams of a secure legal environment to do business were crushed.

Finally with the opening, it was back – in a very truncated form but back nonetheless. You could just feel the energy and joy on the porch. It was a reminder to me that great entrepreneurs at every level of society possess a passion akin to great intellectuals, priests, or scientists. They believe that they are doing what they were born to do.

This country was founded to allow them to make their dreams come true. How and why we came to the place in which they were shut down coast to coast is a scandal for the ages. __ Don’t Let It Happen Again

When government officials grow too full of themselves, drunk on their own power and determined to “put the little people where they belong,” we get atrocities like these lockdowns. We are just beginning to count the costs of these countless displays of petty tyranny.

More die from lockdowns

The policies have created the greatest global economic disruption in history, with trillions of dollars of lost economic output. These financial losses have been falsely portrayed as purely economic. To the contrary, using numerous National Institutes of Health Public Access publications, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Bureau of Labor Statistics data, and various actuarial tables, we calculate that these policies will cause devastating non-economic consequences that will total millions of accumulated years of life lost in the United States, far beyond what the virus itself has caused.

Lockdown deaths soar

Written by Simone Gold, a California emergency medical specialist, and further signed by hundreds of doctors, the letter adds “The millions of casualties of a continued shutdown will be hiding in plain sight, but they will be called alcoholism, homelessness, suicide, heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure.”

Suicides skyrocket due to lockdown effects

Doctors in Northern California say they have seen more deaths from suicide than they’ve seen from the coronavirus during the pandemic.

“The numbers are unprecedented,” Dr. Mike deBoisblanc of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California, told ABC 7 News about the increase of suicide deaths adding that he’s seen a “year’s worth of suicides” in the last four weeks alone.

Very low contagion for most infected cases

… the number of deaths in America from cancer, suicide and other diseases that haven’t been treated while we’ve been locked down will far outnumber the deaths from this virus when all is said and done, and that, after the economy has been utterly smashed on the rocks, rendering a brand new sector of Americans in poverty after working their entire lives to build small businesses.

Again, virtually everything the medical bureaucracy has done has been ass backwards. Most of them deserve to be frog marched into the city square and put in stocks. Sadly, many of them aren’t political appointees and cannot be fired. They are lifers in the FedGov or StateGov, those seeming repositories of incompetence and malfeasance.

Why did government officials rush to treat a pimped-up coronavirus as if it were the bubonic plague? Why did politicians, journalists, and academics collaborate so willingly to create panic among the public? What were they hoping to achieve besides misery, poverty, and bedlam?

It was a totalitarian power play, after the manner of totalitarian mainland China. There is a lot that needs to be learned from this ongoing overreach of state power. And an accounting is badly needed to see that these government abuses cannot happen again nearly so easily.

Update on lockdowns 2 June 2020

Judging from the estimates in both models, statewide lockdowns had little or no perceptible impact on virus transmission in these states. And Oklahoma, which never imposed a lockdown, saw essentially the same drop in transmission around the same time. These estimates are consistent with cellphone and foot traffic data, which show that Americans were moving around less in response to the COVID-19 epidemic well before politicians made it mandatory.

Voluntary choices to reduce opportunities for spread are of far more value than anything a prancing government official may say on screen. If they lose the people’s trust, they are done. And they have certainly overplayed their hand.
